Last week OSHA announced a delay in it’s original plan to begin enforcing their new silica exposure standards until 9/23/17.
OSHA argues that more time is needed to educate employers about the requirements and get into compliance. Outreach resources include training, educational materials which provide additional guidance.
Despite the enforcement delay, OSHA expects that construction companies will continue to make efforts towards gaining compliance.
Only the construction industry has been given an extension. The General Industry, Maritime and Oil & Gas silica rules still go into effect on 6/23/18.
