Many people assume that only manufacturing, industrial and construction companies get fined by OSHA, but that’s not true. They target retail, and other “harmless” industries too, as this recent example shows.
OSHA fined Trade Fair Supermarkets $505,929 for 10 repeat health and safety hazards. Violations at 3 company locations included blocked exits, unguarded saws, failure to train employees, failure to provide chemical SDSs and for not providing eyewash stations.
The extremely high fines were due to the fact that many violations were repeats from previous citations found in 2013 at the same company.
