TDI Issues 2016 Texas Occupational Fatality Statistics

Texas Department of Insurance has issued their 2016 workplace fatality report.

The full report can be found in the link below but here is a summary of the report:

  • 545 fatalities occured
  • This was a 3% increase from the previous year
  • Nationwide, there were 5190 workplace fatalities
    • 432 per month
    • 14 per day
    • (These numbers are consistent with historical data)
  • Transportation was the leading industry for fatalities
  • Construction was the 2nd leading industry for fatalities
  • Manufacturing was 3rd leading industry for workplace fatalities
  • Falls were the second leading cause of workplace deaths
  • “Struck by/Caught in between” was the 3rd leading cause of death
