Russell Carr
Founder & President

My past experiences as a small business owner and operator of 3 industrial service companies inspired me to create Berg Compliance Solutions, LLC, which specializes in helping small companies manage environmental, health and safety regulations.

Berg Environmental Services, Inc. has been providing hazardous waste management and transportation services since August of 2003, Turn Energy Maintenance (3rd party O&M service provider to utility scale wind farms throughout the US) was founded in September 2007, Energy Vacuum Services, LLC (3rd party environmental transportation & disposal service provider to O&G industry in south Texas) was founded in August of 2011.

These businesses operated in extremely dangerous environments and exposed our employees to a wide range of significant health, safety & environmental hazards on a daily basis. My staff and I learned early and quickly the critical importance of managing EHS issues so as to ensure the well being of our employees, as well as minimizing risks associated with the businesses. I also learned first hand how difficult and challenging this endeavor can be, with so many rules and regulations to manage and struggling to ensure that our EHS programs were maintained & utilized by our field staff/operations on an ongoing and consistent basis.

As a business owner, these experiences also taught me how difficult in can be to balance these compliance & risk issues against budgetary realities, but having seen several of our competitors lose employees to serious injuries, get fined by OSHA, and several customers suffer severe consequences due to environmental compliance failures, I ultimately learned the most important lesson of all: environmental, health & safety compliance is not a discretionary option. It is a mandatory requirement for any company engaged in an industry that puts it’s employees, the environment and communities at risk.  Berg Compliance Solutions was created to help small businesses manage these responsibilities and obligations.

Learn More About Why Stuart Chose To Pursue a Career In Health & Safety:

How I got involved in workplace safety was purely by chance but probably because of the worst situation. In late May 2000 while working as a aircraft maintenance engineer I had an accident, a bad accident. While setting up a grinding tool it exploded, parts of the grinding disc striking my left eyebrow and then entering my left eye socket bursting my left eye. The result was I lost my left eye and had associated other damage to my face that required three more operations to get me looking sort of normal. Amongst other issues I was diagnosed with PTSD. I now have a medpor implant and  artificial eye along with three plates to repair the damage to my left eye socket.

As a result of the accident my career possibilities changed markedly. Once fit to return to work the manager who I was working for at the time of the accident asked if I could assist in implementing some safety initiatives. For me this was an opportunity to prevent others having the “experience” that my family, friends, colleagues and self had just been through. I worked days and studied nights and weekends and took up every opportunity I could to better myself via education and 16 years after the accident and 15 years after being given that opportunity to become involved in safety I continue to work hard to prevent others having the experience of a workplace injury, illness or death.
