Director of Operations & Senior EHS Consultant Position, Austin, Texas

Job Brief:

Berg Compliance Solutions, LLC is a small EHS consulting business located in Austin, Texas.  We specialize in helping small businesses manage EHS compliance.  The company is a spinoff of Berg Environmental Services, Inc. which is a hazardous waste management business founded in 2003.

Over the past 6 years, we’ve established our brand identity, proven our business model and are now poised to scale by attacking new markets and verticals throughout Texas and the country.  As part of our future growth plans, we are seeking a very experienced and qualified leader to fill the role of Director of Operations & Senior EHS Consultant.

This leadership position will include a combination of service delivery, management & profitability responsibilities, and success will require STRONG ENTREPRENEURIAL aptitude & skill.

In addition to leadership and management experience, the Senior EHS Consulting role requires extensive knowledge and application of OSHA health and safety standards as they apply to general industry and construction sectors. The candidate must also possess strong environmental regulatory compliance experience, especially hazardous waste management/RCRA, Storm Water & Discharge, Air Emissions and Hazardous materials reporting as they apply to manufacturing.  DOT compliance experience would also be beneficial.

The areas of responsibility for this new role are broad and therefore require a rare combination experience, skills, and commitment to entrepreneurship & company growth.

Experience & Qualification Requirements

  • Educational Requirements:
    • Minimum 4 year B.S. degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science or chemistry from an accredited 4 year university.
    • Graduate degree in above discipline(s) strongly preferred
  • Proven experience as Director of Operationsor equivalent position, preferably within a consulting business
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit, drive and skills
  • Outstanding communication and people skills

 

  • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. supply chain, finance, customer service etc.)
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
  • Familiarity with MS Office and various business software (e.g. PM, ERP, CRM)
  • Minimum 15 years of proven EHS compliance experience:
    • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards (1910, 1926 & 1904):
      • Written program development
      • Audits/Inspections
      • Hazard Assessments
      • Training
      • Record Keeping
      • Industrial Hygiene
      • OSHA enforcement
    • NIOSH and other related health and safety organizations
    • Implementation & Management of TCEQ, EPA and hazardous materials rules and regulations:
      • Compliance Audits
      • Storm Water & Discharge
      • Air Emissions
      • RCRA/Hazardous Waste Management
      • Tier II, EPCRA, TRI
      • SPCC
    • DOT Hazardous Materials

Summary Responsibilities

  • Manage, meet & exceed company Key Performance Indicators
  • Deliver client EHS compliance services (maintain 75% billable utilization)
  • Liaise with ownership to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals
  • Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of business to ensure consistent quality of services
  • Supervise staff, manage accountability and provide constructive feedback & coaching
  • Monitor and manage company Apprentice Program to mentor, coach & develop recent graduate hires.
  • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
  • Consistently evaluate the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements
  • Develop and Revise company policies and procedures as necessary, and promote their implementation & consistent use.
  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability. Ideally the position will eventually include P&L responsibilities

 

  • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations
