TCEQ Fines 81 TX Entities Last Week

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality issued $280,392 in fines last week. Many companies mistakenly believe that regulatory enforcement has backed off under the current administration. This just isn't true, and 81 Texas entities, some private and some governmental, learned this the hard way last week. Many companies also don't realize that TCEQ issues these fines every single day throughout the state.

Hazardous Materials Civil Penalties Increased

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) announced last week significant increases in civil penalties for hazardous materials violations as follows: The max fine for a violations having to do with hazardous materials transportation increased from $79,976 to $81,993 per day, per violation. For a violation that results in death, serious illness, severe injury, or substantial property damage, the civil penalty rose from $186,610 to $191,316.
